How To Prepare For Your First Sugaring Appointment

How To Prepare For Your First Sugaring Appointment

Do you want to know how to prepare for your first sugaring appointment? Your first sugaring experience can be intimidating, but we're here to help. Here are some before and aftercare tips you must follow for the best stress-free results.

Whether you're new to sugaring or it's your tenth visit, you may want to consider these points to support you as you prepare for your appointment.

What should I do before my sugaring appointment?

To get the best results out of your sugaring appointment, we recommend that you:

  • Grow your hair out for at least four weeks.
  • Exfoliate the bikini area regularly using My Vikini products and discontinue use 48 hours before the wax.
  • Avoid caffeine for at least 24 hours before your appointment. It is a stimulant and can make your skin more sensitive.
  • Thirty minutes before the appointment, take a pain reliever to ease discomfort.

Should I trim beforehand?

Come as you are; there's nothing to be shy about! As licensed estheticians, we always advise clients not to trim before their sugaring appointment. If trimming is necessary, your esthetician will do so for you! It's our job to give your body that extra bit of love and care!

Body Sugaring No No's

We strongly advise that you do not have sex before your appointment, do not work out, do not swim, and avoid any activity that may cause foreign bacteria to enter the bikini area. Keep these recommendations in mind to prevent uneasiness and potential infections.

What positions should I expect during the process?

Depending on the practitioner, they may want you to be in different positions. Some common positions in sugaring appointments may include:

  • Laying on your back in a butterfly position (when your legs are relaxed down and feet are touching)
  • Knees to your chest
  • Laying on your side with your knees to your chest

Feeling Nervous?

If you are nervous before your appointment, don't stress! As we said, we're here for you.

Your esthetician will act as your guide throughout the session. As trained professionals, we can answer any questions or concerns you may have and do whatever is needed to help you feel comfortable during the process.

Does it Hurt?

This all depends on individual pain tolerance, but most clients find body sugaring not as painful as they anticipate. While there is some discomfort, it is quick and tolerable. The rule of thumb for those who want to understand what kind of pain to expect; if you have tattoos, piercings, or kids, you can tolerate a wax!

How Long Does It Last?

Clients will find that they have little to no hair growth for the first one to two weeks. After that, your hair grows slow and sparse with a fine texture. By week four, you should prepare for your next visit. Additionally, we recommend that you get sugared every four to six weeks.

Is it Safe?

Sugar waxing is very safe. As estheticians, it's what we do, and we stand by our services.

As sugaring uses natural ingredients, clients find it gentler on the skin and don't experience any reactions or irritations during or after the service.

If you're worried about the ingredients used in this process, and we cannot stress this enough: do your research if you think it may compromise your results. Sugaring is generally safe for all skin types. However, if you have any skin concerns, please consult your esthetician or doctor to determine the best treatment plan.

Sugaring Contraindications

We don't want you to have a bad or unsafe experience, and there are so many ways we can help you prevent that! If your skin is sunburned, irritated, or has areas with open skin, you cannot be sugared. If you have had a chemical peeling or microdermabrasion treatment before being sugared, you must wait at least seven days. If you visited a tanning booth the same day as your appointment, or if you have had laser skin resurfacing within the past year, your esthetician cannot perform the sugaring procedure.

Please have a doctor clear you for sugaring if you take medications that thin the skin (such as Retin-A), blood thinners, or cause sun-sensitive skin. Some of these include:

  • Accutane
  • Adapalene
  • Alustra
  • Avage
  • Avita
  • Differin
  • Isotretinoin
  • Renova
  • Retin A
  • Tazaraz
  • Tazarotene
  • Tretinon

Now that you've read up on all the facts, you're ready for your first sugaring appointment! We cannot wait to see your results.
